Waterra Inertial Pumps: Standard System and Accessories

This is our most popular pumping system. It is typically used in 50mm or 100mm diameter monitoring boreholes, but can also be used to sample from narrower tubes of 25mm diameter. Manual operation is possible to approximately 15 metres, but it is easier to operate mechanically with the PowerPack PP1 which can extend the pumping range to over 60 metres using conventional standard tubing or to 85 metres using thicker walled STDX tubing. If water levels are within suction depth, pumping can be carried out in conjunction with the SP1 suction pump .

Maximum flow rate (under ideal conditions) is between 6 and 8 litres per minute.

The system can also be used for cleaning and development of 50mm diameter monitoring boreholes using a Waterra Surge block.

Normal Operating Parameters
Borehole Diameters 25 to 100mm
Depth of Operation Manual: up to 15m
Powered*: up to 60m
Pumping Rate Up to 8 l/min
* using PowerPack PP1

Standard Stainless Steel Low Profile Foot Valves and Accessories - Internal Fit
The "VS" range of low profile, round-headed, internal-fitting inertial pump valves provide minimum hydraulic resistence and maximum pumping efficiency. Designed with cutting screw threads, they are simply and quickly attached to tubing using a standard Hex key (supplied separately).
Code Description
VS4-STD Low Profile Stainless Foot Valve for 13mm ID STD tubing (16mm OD)
VS4-Key Hex Key (8mm) for attaching VS4 valves

Standard Delrin Foot Valves and Accessories - External Fit
The original Waterra foot valve. This external fitting self tapping screw-threaded valve is moulded from Delrin plastic for general use.

Delrin has low absorptive / desorptive properties (unlike nylon and other cheaper plastics) and is suitable for routine sampling programmes.

TheD25 foot valve can be tightened by hand or by using a custom built Waterra tubing wrench.
Code Description
D-25 Foot valve: STD Delrin / External Fit / 25mm OD
WVR-1F Waterra wrench for D-25 and D-32 foot valves

Standard HDPE Tubing and Accessories
Standard HDPE Tubing for downhole use. Available in three coil sizes which can then be cut to lengths. Ideal for dedicated applications. Use with either external (D-25) or internal fitting (VS4) foot valves.
HDPE Tubing
Code Description
STD-30 STD HDPE tubing (16mm OD x 13mm ID) x 30m coil
STD-60 STD HDPE tubing (16mm OD x 13mm ID) x 60m coil
STD-100 STD HDPE tubing (16mm OD x 13mm ID) x 100m coil
STD-TEF30 Tubing FEP (Teflon) STD 16mm OD x 13mm ID 30m
SEC-CAPS End caps (for STD tubing)

Standard PVC Discharge Tubing
Disposable PVC tubing for controlling surface discharge of purge water. Push fits over the end of Waterra Standard tubing.
STX Tubing
Code Description
STX-1 STD PVC 22mm OD surface extension tubing (price per metre)

Tubing Cutter
The Waterra tube cutter (WTC-1) is faster and safer to use than a hacksaw or utility knife and provides straight, clean cuts to tubing with no burring.
Tubing Cutter
Code Description
WTC-1 Waterra tubing cutter

Standard Delrin Surge Blocks (48mm OD)
Delrin Surge Blocks are used in 50mm diameter boreholes to enhance borehole development and remove sediment. The combination of mechanical surging and high volume pumping can remove water containing silt and fine sand without clogging. Add water to the borehole if necessary to loosen silt. The SB-STD Surge Block fits over the Standard Flow tubing and is held in place with a stainless steel grub screw directly above the Waterra foot valve.
Standard Surge Blocks
Code Description
SB-STD 48mm OD Delrin Surge Block for STD System Tubing
SB-Key 5mm Hex Key for Surge Blocks

Volatile Sampling Tubing
A 6mm diameter siphon tube (VSK-30) can be used to collect samples from inertial pump tubing to avoid sample contact with air at surface and provide a smooth laminar flow of water. Tubing can be supplied in HDPE or Teflon.

The technique is best carried out using Standard Waterra tubing.
Volatile Sampling Tube
Code Description
VSK-30 Volatile Sample Tubing - HDPE (6mm OD x 4mm ID) x 30m coil
VSK-30T Volatile Sample Tubing - FEP(Teflon) (6mm OD x 4mm ID) x 30m coil
