  Cable Dessicants

Desiccant is an integral part of vented cable systems. Desiccant prevents moisture from damaging water level and quality monitoring instrumentation, particularly in wet and humid environments.




New dessicant is blue in colour. This gradually changes through bright pink to light pink at which stage it is completely saturated and should be replaced.The picture above shows (from left to right):
- Desiccant that is new
- Desiccant that is partially exhausted, but still suitable for use
- Desiccant that is completely exhausted - should be replaced

To keep your vented RuggedCable® systems dry and your instruments working properly, you must replace your desiccant when it changes to pink.

Small Cable Dessicant (Storage)

Small disposable cable desiccant vials attach via the twist-lock connector on either end of an assembled RuggedCable. These are designed primarily for storage use. For deployment of vented cable in field conditions use large outboard dessicant or large dessicant vials. Suitable for use with RuggedCable deployed with Level TROLL, Aqua TROLL and TROLL 9500 instruments. Purchased in packs of 3. For instructions see pdf sheet.

Large Dessicant

Large cable desiccant vials are available with ABS or titanium twist-lock connectors. We recommend titanium for most field applications. Attach via the twist-lock connector on either end of an assembled RuggedCable. These are designed for field use to maintain the vent tube in the centre of a vented cable completely dry between uses. Any moisture entering the tube will reduce the accuracy of the instrument and may lead to failure. Vials can be emptied and refilled. Dessicant can be dried out and reused. Refill packs also available. Suitable for use with RuggedCable deployed with Level TROLL, Aqua TROLL and TROLL 9500 instruments. Purchased singly. For instructions see pdf sheet.

Outboard Dessicant

Outboard desiccant vials are avaialble for use with RuggedCable supplied with stripped and tinned cable ends. Theseare attached directly to the vebnt tube and then positioned immediately adjacent to the cable using a velcro clip. These are designed for field use to maintain the vent tube in the centre of a vented cable completely dry between uses. Any moisture entering the tube will reduce the accuracy of the instrument and may lead to failure. Vials can be emptied and refilled. Dessicant can be dried out and reused. Refill packs also available. Suitable for use with RuggedCable deployed with Level TROLL, Aqua TROLL and TROLL 9500 instruments. Purchased singly. Refill packs also available.
