We aim to minimise waste production, particularly packaging, and to recycle as much as possible. Any residual waste materials are
disposed of safely and legally under our Duty of Care responsibility
Recycling of Wastes
We routinely recycle the following materials:
Cardboard:
Any residual cardboard from packaging is recycled either within our own packaging or is segregated and collected separately by
a licensed commercial contractor. A copy of our current Waste Transfer Note for cardboard can be provided on request.
Paper:
Paper is shredded for recycling and also reused within packaging.
Office Equipment:
Any serviceable items of office equipment, particularly computers and other electronics are offered to staff, local schools and
local charitable organisations. Any waste electronic items will either be recycled back to original producers or disposed of via
our hazardous waste collection scheme. All toners or other consumable are recycled either by return to manufacturer or through
charitable collection agencies.
WEEE (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment):
We are registered with the Environment Agency as a Producer for our own branded and imported Electrical Products
(Registration Number WEE/EK0076US). From 1 July 2007 All EEE manufactured goods for which we are responsible as the producer can
be collected and recycled via our WEEE collection service. Further details are posted on our WEEE
Page.
Batteries
As we place less than 1 tonne of portable and industrial batteries onto the UK market per annum, we are not required to join a
Battery Compliance Scheme. However, as a "Small Producer", Waterra is registered with the Environment Agency (Registration Number BPRN00272)
and will submit the requisite annual returns regarding output weight.
Disposal of Non-Hazardous Wastes
All non-hazardous wastes are disposed from our offices and warehouse via a licensed commercial contractor under our Duty of Care
responsibilities. A copy of our current Waste Transfer Note can be provided on request.
Disposal of Hazardous Wastes
We do not directly produce hazardous waste, but in common with all households and businesses we consume goods within our
warehouse and office premises which are classified as hazardous for disposal purposes. As we produce less than 500kg of
hazardous waste per annum, we are not required to register with the Environment Agency as a waste producer.
All wastes classified as hazardous (primarily fluorescent lighting tubes and occasional items such as alkaline batteries,
oily rags and household detergent containers) are segregated and stored safely on site in approved, labelled and covered containers.
The total amount of hazardous waste arising annually is significantly less than 500kg.
All hazardous wastes are disposed via a licensed commercial contractor under our Duty of Care responsibilities with separate Waste transfer
Notes issued for each collection.
