Innovations in Water Monitoring

Water Level Measurement using Data Loggers
a practical guide to data loggers and how to improve accuracy

The requirements of the Water Framework Directive have given a new impetus to the need for collecting reliable groundwater level monitoring data. This workshop will help to maximise the efficiency of your monitoring programmes and improve the accuracy of your measurements.

How reliable and accurate are data loggers in the field? Are all loggers the same? Are you getting the most out of your equipment in the field and what steps can you take to improve the accuracy of field measurements?

Course Content

The half-day seminar is delivered at various venues in the UK and Ireland and will provide delegates with up to date knowledge including:

How loggers work – vented (gauge) and non-vented (absolute) pressure logger systems

Accuracy – expectations and standards. How accurate are loggers in practice?

Real time demonstration. Risky for the demonstrator - highly instructive for delegates!
Installation and record keeping / Programming and downloading data
Compensation routines / validating data / achieving accuracy

Working with telemetry and process control systems

Common problems, applications and case histories
Monitoring Data from Darfur, UK, Ireland & North America
Slug Tests and Pumping Tests
Conductivity measurements

Additional content for those attending the full day workshop in Birmingham includes:

Testing and standards applied to data loggers
A practical insight from an invited speaker (TBA)

Workshops
Hands on programming using a variety of loggers to measure water levels
Collecting data from a slug test using on-site borehole
Automatic and spreadsheet compensation – some practical guidance

Over 90 delegates have attended this course since 2009. Material is kept up to date and refreshed using the latest equipment, current R&D and case histories. This is another popular course so please book early.

Some comments from delegates on our previous courses ....

"...very useful and practical training for anyone involved with digital groundwater monitoring......"

"Knowing the limits of accuracy in water level measurements is hugely important - particularly if you need to defend your data
in a public forum. This workshop, originally developed for the IGI, will teach you to respect water level measurements and also
significantly improve your field skills in the use of data loggers of any type ........."

"Brilliant day ... clear, well explained and interesting ... surprised as an experienced user at what I learnt"

"I had a really enjoyable day and found it incredibly useful, so thank you very much!"
