Discrete interval sampler – How it Works
The Solinst discrete interval sampler is a reusable, stainless steel passive sampler. It is supplied with LDPE tubing mounted
on a reel which includes a pressure tap connector and vent switch.The sampler is pressurised using a high pressure hand pump before being lowered into the water column. This prevents water flowing into the sampler on the way down the borehole. Once the sample depth is reached, the pressure is released and the sampler fills with water under hydrostatic pressure. The ball valve inside the top of the sampler prevents water from entering the LDPE airline tubing, thus avoiding the need to decontaminate the tubing between use. When the sampler is filled, it can, if required, be repressurised before being raised back to surface. The sample is collected via a built-in sample release device. Passive sampling using the discrete interval sampler Passive "no-purge" sampling reduces disturbance in the borehole column and eliminates the need to dispose of purge water. Pressurising the sampler guarantees certainty in collecting a sample from a specified depth – no need to worry about mixing effects that can occur in conventional bailers.The Discrete Interval Sampler is excellent for VOC as well as conventional inorganic sampling. Other applications for the discrete interval sampler The Discrete Interval Sampler is ideal for sampling groundwater below floating product layers (LNAPL) and for obtaining samples of product itself (LNAPL and DNAPL). The sampler is easily disassembled for cleaning and decontamination. |
