Unlike bailers, passive, no-purge samplers provide the means to sample at discrete vertical intervals in a borehole
without disturbance of the water column. These are ideal for obtaining water samples for both conventional and
VOC analyses.

HYDRASLEEVE NO-PURGE SAMPLER

The HYDRASLEEVE no-purge sampler is used in place of purging and low-flow sampling methods in groundwater monitoring boreholes to obtain representative, real time, discrete interval sample of ALL compounds under natural groundwater flow conditions.
The HydraSleeve is effective for sampling slow recharge wells, for monitoring interfaces, and for concentration profiling. Simply lower the empty sampler to the desired interval, let the well return to undisturbed conditions, and pull the sampler through the sample zone to retrieve a "core" of water at the sample depth.
The HydraSleeve reduces field sampling time significantly. It generates no purge water for disposal and requires no expensive equipment. It can be used to sample slow recharge wells and, because it creates minimal disturbance in the borehole, produces lower turbidity samples compared to bailed or pumped samples.
The HydraSleeve is fast and easy to deploy enabling you to collect samples in less than fifteen minutes! No decontamination or purge water to worry about. No special training or tools required.
The HydraSleeve can be used to sample discrete and multiple intervals in a borehole well casing. Obtain concentration profiles at multiple intervals simultaneously by attaching several HydraSleeve samplers to a single tether line.

Hydrasleeve Disposable Samplers

Use the Standard S650 and S1000 Hydrasleeves for sampling from 50mm diameter boreholes. The S650 Hydrasleeve can retrieve a sample volume of 650 ml over a vertical interval of 0.7 to 1.1 metre. The S1000 Hydrasleeves can retrieve a sample volume of 1 litre over a vertical interval of 1 to 2 metres.
Use the Large L1250 Hydrasleeve for sampling from 75mm or 100mm diameter boreholes. The L1250 Hydrasleeve can retrieve a sample volume of 1.25 litre over a vertical interval of 0.7 to 1.1 metre.
For information on the use of the Hydrasleeve, see pdf

Reusable Weights for Hydrasleeve

A series of reusable Stainless Steel weights are available for suspending one or more Hydrasleeves in a borehole. The smallest 175g weight is best used with a single Hydrasleeve at up to 60 metres depth; the 275g weights with 2 or 3 Hydrasleeves. Heavier weights (525g) can be used singly or added in line for deploying multiple passive samplers on a single tether line or for working at greater depths.
NEW Stainless Steel Hollow Top Weights can be used to compress the top of the Standard S0 and S1 samplers to within 150mm of the base of the borehole. This allows wells with less than 1to 1.5 metres of water to be sampled.

EQUILIBRATOR DIFFUSION SAMPLER

The EQUILIBRATOR Passive Diffusion Sampler (PDS or PDB) is used in place of purging and low-flow sampling methods in groundwater monitoring wells to obtain representative, discrete interval samples of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) under natural groundwater flow conditions.
Simply fill the sampler with deionized water, install one or more PDBs in the zone(s) of interest and return at the next sample event to collect samples and replace samplers.
The EQUILIBRATOR is also used in surface water and in stream bed sediments and embankments to identify and monitor VOC contaminant discharge areas.

Reusable Hangers and Accessories for Equilibrator

For suspending 1 or 2 diffusion samplers in a borehole, the optional stainless steel hanger provides the simplest solution. By adding a standard weight this method is typically used up to a depth of approximately 25 metres below water level. See pdf for instructions.
The easiest way to string 3 or more samplers together is to hang a series of diffusion samplers from a single cord tether with a heavier weight. This method with the 567kg weight is typicallyused for depths in excess of 25 metres. For depths below water in excess of 75 metres additional in-line 567 g weights are recommended. See pdf for instructions.

PASSIVE SAMPLERS: ACCESSORIES
Tag Line

The Solinst 103 "Tag Line" is a 1.6mm diameter stranded stainless steel cable marked at one metre intervals with low profile bonded markings. The end of the cable is equiped with a clip which can be attached to a variety of devices for temporarily suspending in boreholes including HydraSleeve and Equilibrator Passive Samplers. The supplied tape guide helps protect the cable from damage caused by rubbing against the edge of borehole casing during use.
Using a tag line is quick and easy and because the tape is already marked at 1 metre intervals, cuts out the need to measure the length of cord before it is used.
Each Tag Line is supplied with a 0.7kg weight for use as a plumb line. The weight has tapered ends to minimise snagging in the borehole and can be clipped on and off the cable. The cable itself has a minimal breaking strength of 122 kg.

Well Caps

EnviroCap locking well caps are attached to the top of well casing and serve the dual functions of preventing surface water from entering the well through the top of the casing and restricting access by unauthorized persons.
EnviroCaps feature an exclusive built in locking system that is completely sealed from the outside environment to eliminate replacement cost of failed locks due to rust, corrosion, and debris. Unlike conventional caps, EnviroCap does not come loose in the casing.
The EnviroCap cannot be opened without using the special magnetic EnviroCap Key (universal) which prevents unauthorised access to the borehole

DISCRETE INTERVAL SAMPLERS

The Solinst Discrete Interval Sampler is a high quality stainless steel sampler with Teflon ball valves and Viton o-rings. It is connected to a narrow diameter air tube on a reel. The sampler is pressurised before lowering into the borehole. This prevents any flow of water into the sampler during lowering through the water column. Once the sample depth is reached, the pressure is released, and the sampler fills. Once full, the sampler can be repressurised to maintain in-situ pressure and then brought to surface.
The sampler is ideal for groundwater sampling below an oil/product layer, for retrieving heavy oil (DNAPL) samples or for volatile and dissolved gas sampling of groundwater in boreholes.
